Tribute to Roger

TRIBUTE TO ROGER

Roger dog, beloved friend of Greg and many other humans and dogs, passed on Monday, April 18. He was just shy of 16 years, an approximate age since Roger was a street dog in Dallas as a youngster when he chose Greg as his human companion, so no one really knows his actual age. He had a long and lovely life, and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to get to know him, and be included in his circle of friends. There are two tribute paintings to Roger, the first is Roger in his younger days, when I first got to know him. He was such gentle guy, except to rodents! Rest in peace, sweet man, and know that you lived on this planet with love. We miss you.

Roger in the Park

This is a second painting as a tribute to Roger, and all the dogs he had as friends, gathering in the same park on Lake Washington. In Greg's words:

"It’s such a wonderful vision of what peace might be for all and for dogs on earth or elsewhere in spirit. Roger lived that spirit so much of his life."

Willy, a very large dog- Dog art, Seattle, WA

Willy is a huge and somewhat scary looking dog, with sorrowful eyes. This made him particularly difficult to portray- I didn't want him to look threatening or sad, but it was just his natural expression. Here is a series showing first, the final painting, then the progression of Willy from the red couch to the final painting. The red couch was too overpowering and the composition had too much horizontal movement. I changed the couch size and color, and moved Willy to the right so he is emerging from the side, thus lessoning some of the horizontals. The blue couch worked better but the red pillow was still overpowering, and Willy was too small. I also moved the background objects to the right for more balance in Willy 3. The final Willy to my mind, achieves a balance of elements- every object seems to be teetering or hovering, but balanced just enough that they don't topple over. Rottweiler dog art

Back to Blogging Dog Art!

Back to Blogging! I took a several month break from blogging to build a new website, paint some new paintings, go skiing, and to procrastinate on blogging. But I'm back, and as everyone "in the know" tells me, it is essential to blog if you are in business. Strange off beat business I have, painting dogs, but here it is.I thought I'd start anew with something old, from my previous caption the image contest. It seems to express my state of mind during the recent months of neglecting the blog. I am posting my favorite caption to this image from the contest of two years ago. Please feel free to post your own caption!
